Billy Pang, MPP for Markham-Unionville writes: Support for Churches and Religious Communities
During the past 2 years our communities have endured a great deal. The COVID pandemic changed everything from how we live, how we work how we play and also how we worship. We had to protect and care for ourselves but also others who were more vulnerable.
As we faced the pandemic we questioned the future. Our long term goals and plans we all worked towards now seemed questionable. During this journey of uncertainty, our churches and religious leaders provided the guidance and the leadership we needed so badly to keep us from faltering. They assured us that when we put our trust in the Lord he will protect us and lead us to safety.
The Ontario Conservative government under the leadership of Doug Ford has recognized the role of the churches during times of hardship and especially during this pandemic. That is why the Ontario government has introduced several programs to help the churches and the hard working communities they represent. The Coptic community is one of these hard working communities. Some of the programs that are offered by the Ontario Conservative government are aimed to specifically help these communities. These programs include the Ontario Grant to Support Anti-Hate Security Measures for Faith-Based and Cultural Organizations, New Long Term Care facilities to help seniors, the Seniors Community Grant, the Ontario COVID-19 Small Business Support Relief Grant and the Ontario Business Costs Rebate Program to mention a few,
Ontario’s Conservative government under the leadership of Doug Ford recognizes and prioritizes the important work that our churches perform in our communities. It will continue to support churches and religious communities as we head into the upcoming provincial election.
Sincerely,
Billy Pang
